What Kind Of Non-stick Pan is Safe?

What kind of nonstick pan is safe

On an everyday basis, most people enjoy using non-stick cookware as it is easier to cook, non-greasy, and the cleaning requires no effort. Food slides easily on the smooth coating and, on low flame, non-stick pans are perfect. But what happens when used on a high flame?

Studies show that using non-stick cookware on a high flame releases PFC (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid) which is a cancer-causing chemical in the human body.

Due to the recent findings and studies that suggest non-stick pans are no longer safe as they emit fumes and gases when exposed to higher temperatures, manufacturers are coming up with non-stick pans which are coated with more harmless materials.

The new materials used in these pans do not release PFAS (poly-perfluoroalkyl substances) PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), or Teflon also known as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), that result in bioaccumulation.

Thermolon ceramic coating

Thermolon is a non-stick ceramic layer derived from sand. It is also a patented technology only used by the GreenPan company.

What makes this non-stick pan safe is the quality that it is 100% PTFE free. It does not contain lead, cadmium or any other PFC family elements that can harm the human body or the environment.

The company also asserts that during the production of this non-stick pan, less than 60% greenhouse gases are released in comparison to regular Teflon-based pan production.  The non-stick layer sprayed on the pan is heat resistant and does not release harmful fumes even during high temperatures.

Two materials are mixed to make this cookware incredibly easy to use as food just slides off, and the cleaning process is trouble-free.

Hence, this is a suitable replacement to traditional Teflon-based pots and pans that have a damaging effect on the human body and the surroundings in irreplaceable amounts.

The green colored coating used in the products replaces the commonly used PFOA-based products with a chemical ingredient which is safer. PFOA-based cookware, when heated at high temperatures, cause it to release dangerous fumes; studies also suggest the intake of PFOA causes high cholesterol and problems for pregnant women. The same does not occur in the case of Orgreenic ceramic-coated cookware.
